How to Make a Simple Sweater Outfit Look Expensive
I’ve always thought that spending money has virtually little bearing on how well you look. A lovely sweater, well-fitting pants, a nice pair of shoes, and maybe some jewelry make up some of the most costly-looking ensembles I’ve put together. That’s all. Simplicity has a way of making an ensemble seem thoughtful, and in recent years, this subtle style has grown even more alluring. Ten layers, a wardrobe full of statement pieces, or trademarks are not necessary. You must wear the appropriate parts in the proper manner.
Start With the Sweater
Everything starts with the sweater, in my opinion. An otherwise unremarkable ensemble can be entirely transformed by a skillfully crafted knit. Rather than the cost, the differences are frequently seen in the fabric, texture, and shape.
This is one of the reasons Irish knitwear appeals to me so much. For instance, the cable, diamond, honeycomb, and other classic stitches used in traditional Aran sweaters give them a unique texture. The current iterations blend that history with styles intended for contemporary clothing.
The women’s sweater selection at Creative Irish Gifts is a great spot to peruse if you’re shopping for one yourself. There are sweaters made of Merino wool and other natural fibers, as well as traditional crewnecks, turtlenecks, cardigans, quarter-zip styles, and larger designs.
However, what you do with the sweater after you’ve located it is equally important.

Pay Attention to Fit
Although this tip is maybe the least intriguing, it has the greatest impact.
Clothing that fits purposefully is usually the first step toward an expensive-looking outfit. This does not imply that everything must be fitted. When the proportions are intentional, an oversized sweater can appear really classy. Making sure the rest of the ensemble balances it is crucial.
I might go with fitted pants or straight-leg jeans instead of another big item if I’m wearing a casual, chunky sweater. I can try larger pants or a flowing skirt more freely if the sweater is more fitting.
It’s more about making a shape than it is about just dressing.
Keep Your Colors Under Control
Reducing the quantity of colors in an outfit is one of my favorite ways to make it look more put together.
To do this, you don’t need to wear all beige. Instead, try selecting two or three complementing hues. Brown with camel cream. White and gray with navy. Black with burgundy and charcoal. Soft green with cream and denim.
This is particularly helpful when wearing a textured sweater, as the knit adds visual appeal to your ensemble.
For instance, you don’t always need another patterned item to compete with your sweater if it features a traditional Aran pattern. Let the texture do the talking.
Mix Textures
This is the point at which a basic sweater outfit can become quite intriguing.
Try experimenting with texture rather than adding more colors or embellishments. Wear well-tailored pants with a cozy wool sweater. Try wearing a satin skirt with thick knitwear. Put on leather boots and black jeans with a textured cardigan.
This, in my opinion, produces a far more nuanced outcome than just adding more jewelry or ornamental elements.
Because it has its own depth and texture, natural wool works especially well for this. Nowadays, a lot of Irish sweaters are made of lambswool, Merino wool, or other natural fibers that provide an otherwise basic ensemble warmth and depth.
Give Your Jeans a Little Help
I will never advise you to give up wearing jeans. They are arguably among the most practical items in any wardrobe.
However, pay attention to the details if you’re wearing a sweater with jeans and want the ensemble to look more put together. Select denim with a clean silhouette and a good fit. If you want a polished appearance, stay away from highly damaged finishes.
Then add something structured, like a pair of shoes, a tailored coat, a leather belt, or a tidy purse.
All of a sudden, it doesn’t feel like you threw on the sweater and pants because you were running late; rather, it feels deliberate.
Don’t Underestimate Shoes
The identical sweater outfit can be entirely transformed by shoes.
Wearing shoes with a bulky knit feels carefree and easygoing. The same sweater instantly feels more put together when it has loafers. You can quickly dress it up for supper or a casual workplace situation by adding ankle boots and a structured coat.
This is, in my opinion, one of the simplest methods to increase the functionality of your clothing. Every situation doesn’t require a separate sweater. The entire atmosphere can change just switching up the accessories and shoes.
The Secret Is Actually Simplicity
Rarely do the most expensive-looking clothing have the most going on. A fantastic sweater doesn’t have to be complicated. When the knit, fit, and texture are perfect, it can represent the entire essence of an ensemble. You can finish it off with a structured coat, basic jewelry, and your favorite pair of jeans.
